The amount of textiles sent to our nation’s landfills is staggering. The textile waste generated annually in the United States alone would fill every NFL stadium. Textiles are also the largest CO2 emitting material in the waste stream. Imagine the impact we could have if we REDUCE this number by half.
According to the EPA, 97% of all textile waste can be RECYCLED. Material that is not suitable for resale can be repurposed into insulation, carpet padding, or other products.
Hand-me-downs are the oldest form of REUSE of a textile product. Expanding upon this concept is exactly what Carolina Textiles is able to do. In addition, we generate revenue to support our local communities, while also keeping reusable second-hand clothing within the communities they are collected.
Textiles leave an environmental footprint at each stage of its lifecycle. There are numerous ways we can work together to increase the sustainability of textiles and help RENEW our environment.
